Abstract
This paper outlines the development and initial findings of a pilot project using open source electronic portfolio software (Mahara™) to aid teacher candidates’ in the development of their professional growth, leadership capacity and information and communication technologies (ICT) abilities unique to them as developing teacher-leaders of Aboriginal heritage. We explain how Mahara™ was selected, and what were the advantages and disadvantages for its use in terms of technical set up, human resource involvement in the set up and maintenance, and in the interaction with the users. We discuss the organic and evolutionary nature of how the selection, implementation and use of this e-portfolio emerged in terms of providing the electronic portfolio environment, getting people into this environment and training them for this environment
