Abstract
Higher education institutions are beginning to research ways avatars can be combined with distance learning to create rich vibrant learning opportunities(Annetta, Klesath, & Holmes, 2008). This study analyzes data of a community college freshman-level science hybrid course using avatars and real-world scenarios. A research design utilizing mixed methods of qualitative and quantitative data will be collected to determine if the use of avatars and real-world scenarios lead to increased student achievement and motivation.
