Abstract
This study presents an analysis of the relationships between students’ computer course enrolments and their STEM major choices, AP course enrolments, and SAT Math, Reading, Writing, Composite, and total scores. We examined students of class of 2011’s data in 8 charter public schools in Texas in order to study if computer course enrollment has any effect on students’ career choice, SAT success, and AP enrollment. Quantitative analyses, Chi-square test and Anova, revealed that students’ computer course enrollment is reversely relational with students’ career choices, SAT scores, and AP course enrollments. We planned to conduct three interviews to gain insights into their reasons for why this is the case. Further study with more semi-structured interviews would provide better picture of why students, who took more or less computer courses, chose what they chose as a major and took what they took as AP courses.
