Abstract

We talk a good deal about eLearning's impact in the classroom, the office, the home on us individually or institutionally-- but what about in our neighborhoods, our towns and cities--on our communities? Do informal and formal eLearning opportunities bring us together to face local challenges or allow us to remove ourselves from the fray as we connect to the wider world and better ourselves? In this interactive talk, we'll explore how beyond connecting us as individuals to the world of learning anytime any place, the Web also connects us deeply to local expertise, creativity and community. We'll consider how rooting eLearning within our physical communities can enhance learning outcomes while engaging us actively in the future of the local.
