Abstract
This session will present a framework for designing, developing, maintaining, and implementing Online Professional Development (OPD) for educators as an alternative to traditional face-to-face staff development. Nationally, educators are challenged by reform and accountability initiatives with many states having required implementation of new standards in the classroom, followed up by high-stakes testing. To be successful, teachers must have the tools, support, and training to radically change teaching and to infuse change at the school level. Online Professional Development provides a vehicle for reaching large numbers of teachers who no longer able to attend staff development during the school day. The framework will provide three models of Online Professional Development along with a set of guiding questions. Several examples of OPD will be included that are currently being used with teachers.
