Abstract

Small inexpensive handheld computers could play an important role in education in the next decade. They pose a way to address the digital divide. But they also offer more applicability for some of the advantages they bring to general computer use. One significant development, Smart Probes, could be the launching point for a whole new set of handheld applications. Concord Consortium has been developing the smart probe concept with help from NSF. These, the next generation of data collectors could lead the way in changing the way students experience science.
