Abstract
The following paper addresses the implementation of a professional development program in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. It examines the rationale, approach, evaluation and implications of this training and its effect in transforming traditional academic ideas about teaching and learning. A systems-based approach enhances teaching and learning by utilising the most appropriate and relevant methods as opposed to advocating multimedia and on-line learning as a panacea for higher education.
