Abstract

In this day of catchy gimmicks, 10-bit sound bites and information overload, critical thinking skills become increasingly more important for guiding both beliefs and action. The mastery of intellectual skills requires a disciplined process to ensure clarity, accuracy and relevance in the evaluation of information. A critical thinking course besides being recognized as an important general education component, endows the learner with abilities to recognize strengths and weaknesses in the presentation of information and justification of beliefs. These clear judgement skills prepare the learner to become a more thoughtful participant in increasing knowledge creation and understanding of the world. The process of designing and developing a critical thinking course to be delivered strictly online is documented and described in this paper.
