Abstract

One of the well-known social media network tools, Twitter’s functions are communication, marketing, politics and education. The current study aimed to examine the resources regarding the use of Twitter in educational environments. For this purpose, literature review has been made through searching Google for both Turkish and international resources. The results of the literature review showed that Twitter was used for learning and teaching differently. It’s observed that Twitter was used in class and for extracurricular activities through creating and sharing contents in conferences and symposiums as a means of interactivity between participants and presenters, and also for teacher-learner or learner-learner communications. As a result, it’s concluded that cooperative, participatory and social learning environments can be created by using Twitter. It’s observed that there is not sufficient empirical work regarding the application of Twitter for instructional purposes.
