Abstract

Video conferencing is becoming commonplace in today’s academic environment. Non-traditional learners in distance-learning programs and alternative teacher training programs are among those most affected. Educators trained in the use of traditional methods of instruction are called upon to deliver instruction to these learners using video conferencing, a non-traditional teaching method. This presentation is aimed at strategies that will increase the likelihood of successfully using video conferencing to support student learning in alternative teacher training and distance learning programs. Participants will be introduced to an alternative teacher program focusing on non-traditional learners that utilizes video conferencing and will see a demonstration of the video conferencing component and archived clips of sessions. The goal of this session is to introduce attendees to a planning model that will lead to the successful delivery of on-line, video-conference instruction.
