Abstract

At Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, a team of geographically distant virtual educators (D-team) has been created. This presentation will cover those D-team specifics that led to increased course evaluation scores related to learner satisfaction. While meeting the needs of contemporary adult learners often challenged by responsibilities of employment, family and school, it requires educators to effectively facilitate discussion, promote constructivist learning and select the “right tool for the right job.” This presentation will demonstrate several online modalities used successfully to streamline and maximize acquisition of new knowledge within the realities of being an adult learner. Examples will include virtual library orientation, asynchronous course orientation and utilization of Web 2.0 technology for a group project. Course evaluations have consistently noted that these modalities have enhanced learning while additionally facilitating the often chaotic schedule of the adult learner.
