Abstract

This purpose of this study is to determine whether appreciative learning approach applied in computer games development class facilitated students’ intrinsic motivation enhancement. The study involved 69 Malaysian form one (grade seven) students, aged 13-14 year-old. Appreciative learning approach, which consisted of discovery, dream, design, and destiny stages, was applied in treatment group whiles control group applied self-paced learning, followed by do-it-yourself session. The mean scores for the overall intrinsic motivation gained by treatment group and control group were 6.03 and 5.64 respectively. Independent samples t-test analyses indicated these mean scores as significant different. As a conclusion, appreciative learning approach applied in computer games development class has the potential in providing the appropriate supportive conditions for enhancing students’ intrinsic motivation.
