Abstract

As the demand for distance learning increases, educators must find ways to bring students together remotely. Virtual environments can bridge the geographic distance that separates online students by providing them with an environment that allows them to communicate and collaborate in real time. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether Second Life, a virtual world, is an effective tool for holding discussions in higher education distance learning courses.
