Abstract
The presentation will discuss the second iteration of design, implementation, and evaluation of multimedia worked examples enhanced with self-explanation prompts, which were developed to help engineering students meaningfully connect analytical procedures with physical principles in the domain of fluid mechanics. Multimedia worked examples were built using Tablet PC and Camtasia video editing software, integrated with the homework assignments, and delivered online using the university course management system. A series of assessments were conducted to examine the effect of the design on conceptual learning and problem-solving performance, as well as the quality of metacognitive processing. The presentation will concentrate on the evaluation results and provide recommendations for instructional design and research.
