Abstract

The current knowledge economy requires organizations to be learning organizations in order to adapt to current challenges because changes and improvements in technology are constantly driving the need for learning as organizations need to respond to the new technology in order to be and remain competitive. However, this involves more than just dumping new technology in organizations as many organizations are not well prepared to effectively manage the changes that the demands for new technology brings. If the changes are not well managed, it would be counterproductive as the efforts and resources expended may not translate into desired benefits. To avoid this, we provide insight into what learning within an organization means and how this relates to various theories of organizational change. We then provide insights into how the theories translate into practical advice on effectively changing an organization into a learning organization as a form of alignment necessitating effective interplay of learning, change management and information technology.
