Abstract
Educators are now looking into utilising social networking sites (SNS) in teaching and learning, either as a platform to share learning materials or as a tool for asynchronous e-learning. The purpose of this research is to study the perception and acceptance of Gen-Y students towards using SNS in teaching and learning and the presence of other possible factors which may influence the utility of SNS in education. The Technology Acceptance Model was adopted in this study. A survey questionnaire was administered on students in a private institution of higher learning. This study attempts to draw the conclusion that (a) social networking sites are perceived and accepted as useful tools in teaching and learning, and (b) perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use will have a positive impact on the acceptance level of social networking sites.
