Abstract

In this study, student outcomes in history instruction were studied in the context of authoring digital media that incorporates the use of historical images. The study employed a qualitative and quantitative design involving the collection of student artifacts and a standards-based multiple choice assessment. The findings showed that the level of higher-order thinking demonstrated in the digital media projects was positively correlated with performance on the standards-based assessment. Applications of these findings and directions for future studies are discussed.
