Abstract

This exploratory study examines the impact of an IT/STEM summer course on STEM high school teachers’ knowledge and skills to design and deliver IT/STEM enrichment experiences for their students. The study describes and reports on the findings of an IT/STEM summer course that included 14 high school STEM teachers. Data were collected from pre and post surveys, in-class observations, document analysis, and end-of course evaluation questionnaire. Findings indicate that teacher participants improved their IT/STEM knowledge and skills throughout the course. There was limited improvement with respect to preparing participating teachers to facilitate IT/STEM teaching/learning strategies over the course of the summer course. The study demonstrates that teachers need more extensive enrichment experiences to increase their knowledge and skills to design and deliver IT/STEM learning experiences for students.
