Abstract

In a study conducted by a university Teacher Quality Enhancement (TQE) grant in August of 2008, over 350 teachers, technologists, and administrators from schools in the College of Education’s preservice teacher placement area provided opinion about educational technologies use and skills for preservice and practicing teachers. The teachers, technologists, and administrators were presented with a comprehensive list of educational technologies and technology skills and were asked to identify the technologies and skills that are currently used by teachers at their school and technologies and skills that new teachers need to know upon hire. The results revealed two sets of preferred educational technology skills, one for new hire and one for current teachers. Approaches to meaningful infusion of the educational technologies throughout a teacher education program were recommended and supported by current research.
