Abstract

This paper describes an online graduate program in Educational Technology that prepares individuals to use advanced technologies in classrooms, training centers, and other learning environments with an emphasis on K-12 learners. Students create a culminating online portfolio demonstrating competencies developed throughout the program that are aligned with ISTE NETS for Teachers. Two courses in particular, “Learning with the Internet” and “Introduction to Web Development,” will be discussed to illustrate how two courses with very different content and outcomes were designed based on the same theoretical foundation of learning principles. The first course focuses on Internet resources, methods of collaboration, and social networking to enhance learning; the second course builds knowledge and skills necessary for creating well-designed web sites with a variety of purposes and provides assistance through the “Digital Media ZONE” support system.
