Abstract

Abstract: This paper examines the theoretical implications of Don Lavoie’s ideas and work on the use of educational hypertext. It suggests that Lavoie’s arguments and their application in courses at George Mason University from 1996 to 2001 and at the American University of Beirut from 2003 to 2005 offer the educational community an analytical approach to conceptualize a learning process that cannot be either simulated in verbal discussions or exploited using print-based media. This paper describes this method as hypertext learning and conceptualizes how it opens up a whole new way of thinking and asking questions during teaching and learning activities in the classroom.
