Abstract

Digital storytelling – the art and craft of using new media technologies to create and relate a story – has recently been embraced at many levels of education. But as in any wave of technology integration, the nuances of understanding and wisely applying the new tools of expression can become a flood of choices and challenges, for the facilitator of this new media literacy and for the participants. In this brief paper, I will outline through a hermeneutic lens of interpretation some of the decisions I have made and the trials I have faced through the implementation of a grant received through the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement , Innovative Funding to bring digital storytelling to grade nine language arts classes.
