Abstract
In our presentation we will explore new possible roles for the teachers in professional education from two different points of view; that of a teacher with experience in web-based learning environments, and that of an educational technology specialist. We will explore the differences between these two points of view in a dialogue and present our own alternative for the role of the teacher. This alternative we call "distributed coaching", which will be distributed in the sense that learning of individual students will not need to be confined within the limits of a single educational institution or a curriculum but can, instead, spread via networked learning environments into different institutions or organizations and their curricula.
