Abstract
A nation’s competitiveness in the modern era depends on securing outstanding IT personnel with creative problem-solving ability. Towards this end, structured IT education should take place even from the elementary school stage. However, IT education in Korea is focused merely on the cultivation of high-end personnel at the university and graduate school level. Relatively speaking, IT education in elementary school is most neglected. Therefore, effort to develop policy and to provide national level support for the IT education at the elementary school level is necessary. For the development of this policy, this research was conducted to find out the perception of IT education and the demand for IT education at the elementary schools in Korea. Survey result on perceptions and needs from teachers’, parents’ and students’ could be used as a guide to make policies and set benchmarks for systematization and revitalization of IT education.
