Abstract
Teaching with primary sources can be a catalyst for change in teacher education (Bolick, et al(2004). Teacher candidates experience finding, analyzing, and teaching with primary sources in four social studies methods classes. Instructors help the teacher candidates gain an understanding of primary and secondary sources through digital resource use. What is the motivation for teacher candidates to teach with primary sources when they have their own classroom? The Pay It Forward assignment involves paying the teacher candidates a minimal dollar amount to find, analyze, and plan with primary sources from their local community. This paper outlines the project and a discussion of the preliminary findings related to using existing technology, seamlessly integrated in social studies classrooms.
