Abstract

In the fall of 2007, YouTube made “enhanced channels” available to colleges and universities. While any college department, program or instructor could already post videos to their own YouTube channel, a university channel affords higher education institutions the opportunity to take a more systemic approach to sharing videos about student life, academic programs, and instruction. This paper discusses an approach taken at The University of Arizona (UA) to broadcast content to prospective students and their parents. It reviews the UA’s purpose and its experience, and highlights how other universities are using a YouTube channel to reach current and future students.
