Abstract
Over a four month period, we have conducted an ongoing study with the intent to determine how curricula with integrated ICT in teacher training are relevant for newly graduated school teachers. We identify some challenges for teacher education in respect to making training in ICT applicable for teachers in primary and secondary schools. Our main research question is whether ICT integrated in teachers’ training leads to increased integration and use of ICT among school teachers in their teaching practice. A primary emphasis in this paper is on the relevance on using spreadsheets, web development and Learning Management Systems (LMS) to support learning. To guide our analysis, we use ‘Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK)’ as a framework. We use survey data in the analysis. Preliminary findings indicate difficulties with respect to the appropriateness of our training in spreadsheets and to some extent web development for teaching. This paper provides insight into the interplay between student teachers’ ICT training and teachers’ work context.
