Abstract

From a review of literature, Coomey and Stephenson (2001) identified four major themes that are embedded in four different teacher-learner paradigms. Using a modified version of the Coomey-Stevens paradigms with their associated themes, the teacher-learner transformations that have occurred at an independent, private university through the integration of e-learning were analyzed. Asynchronous discussion boards, chats, cell phones, blogs, wiki spaces and an e-portfolio system stimulated rapid transformation of paradigms. Through the integration of the e-portfolio a leap of transformation in paradigms occurred in all courses, in all programs in Distance Education. Transformations did not follow a systematic, step-by-step process through the themes of the paradigms. In some themes the transformation was easily facilitated and became systemic and in others it was difficult and not systemic at this time.
