Abstract

Since 2006, Taiwan National Palace Museum (TNPM) has implemented a program for the construction of mobile digital learning space, a 24 feet * 48 feet classroom, at Taipei Municipal Minzu Elementary School . In this space, thirty PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) and RFID learning cards were used in order to guide children to appreciate and understand five "Children at Play" paintings, which were created by Su Han-ch'en in the Sung dynasty (960-1279). Four games were designed in this classroom. Two were virtual games on the PDA and the other two were general physical games. Students were divided into 4 different groups to finish these games after understanding the paintings through the PDA guide. This program was also called “The Mobile Digital Learning Space”, which combined the situational learning, game-based, competitive and collaborative learning theories to integrate the mobile technology into the arts and humanities curriculum for the elementary education.
