Abstract

Rovai (2002) defined classroom community as an individual’s feeling of being part of a learning group, and the importance of such a feeling to an individual’s learning process has been well documented. The aim of this study is to investigate differences in sense of community between learners reporting different levels of satisfaction with a blended learning course (a course involving online and face-to-face instruction). The study also aimed to assess differences in sense of community between male and female learners. 59 adult learners took part in this study, and the results indicate that learners who are most satisfied with their learning environment report higher levels of classroom community. The results also indicate that female learners report higher levels of community than males.
