Abstract

In this ethnographic study of Second Life, the online virtual world, I will explore the practices of Second Life residents that constitute their learning. At the same time, I will explore the implications of ethnography methodologies for educational research in virtual worlds. Virtual worlds have been predicted to become significant spaces that extend the ways we live, teach and learn. Because both learning and researching learning in virtual worlds are emergent phenomena, descriptive analysis of such practices is timely.
