Abstract

Administrators in all 29 high schools/junior colleges in Iceland were contacted in the fall of 2005 and again in the fall of 2006 and interviewed regarding distance learning (DL) and uses of learning management systems (LMS) in their schools. The schools were classified into five main groups in terms of prominence of DL in the schools. From six of those schools that differed by DL group and location (rural vs. suburban/urban), 24 teachers and 53 students were interviewed in the spring of 2007. The main focus of this article is reporting the attitudes of students and how they are experiencing being distance (or online) learners and the use of LMS‘s within their schools.
