Abstract

Video cases have been promoted as a way to ground coursework in technology integration in authentic contexts. This paper presents the results of an evaluation on the use of video cases to teach 23 preservice teachers to integrate technology. Teachers in the study participated in a 7-week technology integration course that incorporated three video cases to support teacher learning. Results indicated that students experienced a gain in knowledge from pretest to posttest. Teachers reported on an attitude survey and in an interview that learning to integrate technology from video cases helped them make more sense of their classroom learning and provided them with new ideas about how to use technology to teach. These findings suggest that teachers who are learning to integrate technology benefit from and enjoy having their course content grounded in authentic contexts. Implications for the design of future case studies and the use of such case studies with preservice teachers include considering usability issues and providing high quality video and audio for the experience.
