Abstract

This study reports a survey of students in the Open University of Kaohsiung (OUK) to examine their learning style types and to analyze whether student learning style differences will influence learning performance in distance learning. In this research, the writers adopted the Grasha-Riechmann Student Learning Style Survey (GRSLSS). Based on student's feedback, six types of learning style were identified. There were independent, avoidant, collaborative, dependent, competitive, and participant types in the group. The kind of surveying can help distance educators to predict how different types of learning style might be known and how this may influence offering a variety of teaching approaches suited to the different learning styles.
