Abstract

Free or low-cost web-based video conferencing systems enable synchronous learning and teaching providing more interactive and collaborative environments for online and/or blended education. Educators have numerous options that utilize online video conferencing each of which has different features. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to present a comparison of four web-based video conferencing systems, namely, Skype, Elluminate, Adobe Connect, and iVisit in terms of cost, features, audio and video quality, and ease of use. It is concluded that each system has its own assets and pitfalls, so educators need to decide whichever to use based on their student needs and learning objectives.
