Abstract
Online learning has a unique student-content interface that challenges teachers to present course materials that lead to successful student learning outcomes. There are many different ways for teachers to provide students with online learning materials including text in print, text on-screen, audio lectures, and audio/video lectures, either in stand-alone of combined multi-modal formats. This study investigated student's preferences for different types of online learning materials. The relationship between frequency of use of each format and student learning outcomes was examined. Issues of student engagement in an online learning environment are discussed.
