Abstract: Widespread global educational challenges affecting all aspects of academic environments are being concerned as important issues in higher education. Diversity of students together with society's increasing need for truly well educated graduates suggest academics to gain the necessary skills and knowledge. Considering the primary goals of higher education institutes as enhancing and maintaining academic excellence, faculty members are the most important factor to achieve these goals. The present study addresses the gaps in online training of academics and reveals areas where resistance / barriers against Internet based training exist. Investigating academics' approach on faculty development activities and on related web based training programs indicated ignorance of learners' needs, ambiguity in navigation, lack of interactivity, lack of motivation and technical problems as factors that lead to such resistances. It is suggested that providing solutions to these problems will support Internet as a worthwhile environment for faculty development training programs.
