Abstract
This paper describes an online collaborative learning project between graduate students from two different higher education institutions in two different countries: US and Denmark. The purpose of this case study was to understand how online experiences should be designed to allow authentic collaboration among cross-border learning actors. The design of such experiences required a systematic selection of information and communication technologies capable to support online collaboration, as well as, strategies to overcome issues as language and cultural barriers, and time differences. Lessons learned from this experience are reported and depicted into a model that features five critical dimensions in designing similar educational experiences: inclusion, social, ownership, resource leveraging and authenticity. Implications for future collaborations and further steps are also discussed.
