Abstract
In this survey aimed at assessing the overall level of awareness among Japanese college students of security and privacy risks online, a representative sample of students were asked to respond to a questionnaire gauging their familiarity with terminology related to Internet security and privacy. The rationale, procedures and results of this survey are presented, together with a comparative analysis between these results and those of a similar recent survey of American adult Internet users. The paper concludes with some assumptions derived from the data and analysis, which can then be applied to guide further future research.
