Abstract
Various authoring tools have popularized the use of the use of multimedia in the schools. This presentation offers a detailed, practical model whose purpose is to guide preservice and inservice teachers and others through the process of developing effective multimedia presentations. The model--founded upon a traditional instructional systems development process--requires the developer to produce a series of design documents which should be reviewed by the instructor and peers. Major steps within the model include developing a need statement including the instructional goal and objectives; developing content, a treatment, and usage plan; producing storyboards, a flow diagram, required support materials; and developing an evaluation plan and associated instruments. The model has been successfully applied in graduate courses in instructional multimedia production. An earlier version was sucessfully utilized at a university instructional development center.
