Abstract
College of Education at Shinshu University introduced new and easy-to-use HDTV (high definition TV)-based videoconference systems with support of the grant, "Good Practices on Teacher Preparation Programs at Colleges and Graduate Schools of Education" funded by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan. The HDTV-based mobile distance learning system is newly developed by Infinitec Co., Ltd., and Realmedia Lab. We use it to promote preservice and inservice teachers' professional development. The system enables us to transmit the 16:9 wide picture/screen and high-definition image quality between university campus and our demonstration schools. In our project, we use the system in order for preservice teachers, especially for freshmen, to observe inservice teachers' lessons at our demonstration schools synchronously. The mobile system enables us to operate HDTV remote-controlled circling cameras and to carry it very easily so that we can attend their reflection meeting and lesson study meeting lively.
