Abstract

Current patterns in research topics, methods and emerging themes in distance education research are described in this study by examine 2004 publications in three prominent distance education journals. These research patterns are discussed in a historical context by comparing findings with trends identified in the past. Emerging themes indicated trends in distance education research in the future.
