Abstract
This article presents an online course production model developed jointly by the University of Oulu and the University of Art and Design. The article discusses course production from the producer's point of view, which is different from the viewpoints of the teacher or administration. Knowing, combining and understanding these viewpoints is important for successful cooperation between the groups taking part in production. Process models based on software production provided a good basis for the development of the production model and for the working culture of online courses in academic institutions. Models created for business needs are not, however, directly transferable for use by an educational organisation. Every organisation needs to adjust its activities according to its principles and goals. It is important to highlight good practices and operating models based on different premises. The DoPro model and the tools developed for it will be made freely available to Finnish universities through the Finnish Virtual University portal.
