Abstract

Over the past decade a number of studies, mainly involving desktop-based or head-mounted virtual reality displays, have been undertaken to ascertain what virtual reality can contribute to the pedagogic process. We used the findings from a number of these studies to assist in formulating a new study into the perceived benefits and barriers of using virtual reality in general, and immersive CAVE-like systems in particular, as a pedagogic medium. We conducted this study with a group of final year undergraduates who were registered on a module designed to discuss the impact and effects of new technologies on different aspects of society.
