Abstract
Two products of the Virtual Learning Spaces Project are demonstrated and include the game episodes entitled The Burning Ground and Food for Thought. The Burning Ground episode is designed to addresses epidemics or prevalent diseases important in the African context and includes information related to the aspects of transmission, causative organisms and prevention of HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and cancer. The Food for Thought episode deals with misconceptions related to genetics and provides an understanding and appreciation of the role of genetic technology and its potential impact on society. Both episodes are designed using the Game Object and Game Achievement models and make use of the ãKhozi game engine that use pre-rendered images, a predetermined game pathway and an integrated sound and puzzle system.
