Abstract

USABLE (USability Analysis through Blended LEarning) is an on-going Swiss Virtual Campus-funded project aiming at offering a blended-learning course on usability for web applications. The course is targeted to university students (graduate or undergraduate) attending usability-related university(e.g. HCI, user interface design), but it is as well designed to serve web industry professionals in raise their knowledge and skills in the daily usability practice. The paper recounts the key elements of the project, emphasizing the innovativeness of the content taught, as well as the flexible learning scenarios supported by the course. Special attention is paid to the illustration of the Virtual Usability Lab, an innovative online tool supporting and guiding step-by-step learners in carrying out their own usability evaluation on an existing website. The final part du9iiiscusses the validation strategies used among the project members to assure the delivery of a high-quality course.
