Abstract

The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) course under consideration is part of a BEd (Hons) degree. The course tutor's intention was to develop a comprehensive assessment for learning tool that would enable him to make a judgement on whether the trainee (preservice) teachers had met the learning objectives for the course as well as the appropriate standards for initial teacher training. A key premise underpinning the course is that learners learn more effectively with technology than from it. By creating WebQuests trainees are given the opportunity to demonstrate they have an understanding of how ICT could be embedded within the primary (K-5) curriculum. The accompanying rationale requires them to discuss the constructivist underpinning of the WebQuest concept and relate this to their own work. This paper will discuss work-in-progress on the trainees' perceptions of the whole assessment process including the value they attached to the substantial formative feedback received.
