Abstract

Using e-portfolios to assist learning is an important component of future educational models. E-portfolios can offer advantages in demonstration of skills, learner reflection, collaboration, and assessment and can serve as rich content profiles useful for learners, educators and employers. We claim that e-portfolios also could be useful for personalized learning in an adaptive learning environment. This paper discusses the kinds of information in e-portfolios that may contribute to creating initial data for learner models in an adaptive learning environment and examines how an initial learner model can arise from an e-portfolio. Additionally, a well structured learner model generated by an adaptive learning environment could also be attached to an e-portfolio for further use by the owner and others.
