Abstract

As e-learning creates new challenges and opportunities for professional training, there is a need to document how different emerging technologies, learning formats, and training innovations are impacting workplace learning. In response, a 49-item survey was conducted of 239 individuals in corporate training to investigate the current status and the future directions of e-learning in workplace learning settings. From these survey results, it was clear that e-learning and blended forms of e-learning are on the rise in corporate training environments. Most of the respondents had a highly positive outlook on the future of e-learning, planned to increase their spending on e-learning, and had strategic plans for e-learning. We also found a growing demand for more authentic learning opportunities, hands-on learning, and simulated experiences which e-learning can provide. The focus, however, remained on content creation, not necessarily the delivery and evaluation of such content.
