Abstract
The present paper tries to give an overview of the different evaluation needs that can be found in an educational context, showing that these needs are situated at different institutional steering levels. This analysis shows that the requirement of consistency among the evaluation frameworks used at these different levels can probably only be realized by an integrated computer-assisted testing framework. Such a framework offering the possibility of a collaborative and distributed test development and delivery (two essential characteristics which will be derived from the needs analysis) has been developed by the research project that will be presented. The characteristics of this computer-assisted testing framework will be outlined. Its modular open source architecture guarantees high versatility, permitting the integration of new item formats, as well as other plug-ins thus providing a highly customized, yet consistent, evaluation framework.
